My Conversation w/ Coleman Hughes: The Future of Immigration

Linda ChavezImmigration

Dear CEO Supporters,

I recently joined Coleman Hughes on his widely popular podcast, “Conversations with Coleman,” for a wide-ranging discussion on an issue that has become increasingly fraught in our national discourse: birthright citizenship and the future of the immigration debate.

During the episode, Coleman and I explored how current rhetoric often obscures the historical and legal reality of what it means to be an American. For me, this conversation was a vital opportunity to reflect on my own experiences—including the personal and political challenges I’ve faced—and to re-center the principles that have always guided the Center for Equal Opportunity.

Our work at CEO is rooted in a clear vision: promoting colorblind equal opportunity and a unified American identity. This mission ties directly into the themes Coleman and I discussed:

  • Assimilation as a National Necessity: We believe that for our country to remain strong, those who come to America must become Americans, sharing fundamental values rather than retreating into racial or ethnic enclaves.
  • Opposition to Racial Preferences: Just as we advocate for a colorblind approach to immigration and citizenship, CEO continues to be a bulwark against policies that sort or prefer individuals based on skin color or ethnicity in admissions and hiring.
  • Individual Liberty over Identity Politics: We believe rights belong to individuals, not identity groups, and we reject the reframing of American history through critical race theory.

I hope you will take a moment to listen to the episode. It’s a reminder that even in a polarized time, we can have thoughtful conversations about the values that bind us together.

Thank you for your continued support as we fight for an America where race and skin color are no longer the primary measures of a person’s worth.

Sincerely,

Linda Chavez
