The Center for Equal Opportunity (CEO) is proud to highlight the continued impact of our alumni, as former intern Joel Mowbray makes significant waves in the national conversation on civil rights and religious freedom.
Mowbray, a Georgetown graduate and an alumnus of CEO’s internship program, was recently featured in both Commentary Magazine and The Jerusalem Post for his tireless advocacy against antisemitism. His work as an investigative journalist, syndicated columnist, and attorney has been featured in major outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Post, National Review, and Fox News.
Mowbray led a high-profile investigation into Alhurra, the U.S. taxpayer-funded Arabic network. He documented instances where the station aired uncritical interviews with Holocaust deniers and provided a platform for terrorist leaders. His reporting triggered Congressional hearings and forced the network to implement editorial reforms.
Through his book Dangerous Diplomacy and various columns, Mowbray argued that U.S. diplomatic efforts often inadvertently fund or legitimize organizations and school curricula (such as those in UNRWA-run schools) that promote antisemitic incitement and anti-Western ideologies. Mowbray’s reporting underscores the critical need for principled leadership in defending the civil rights of all individuals, a core tenet of CEO’s mission.
Reflecting on Joel’s impressive career, CEO Founder and Chairman Linda Chavez noted: “Journalists are supposed to be skeptical—that’s what keeps them digging rather than simply accepting the official line. Joel has always embodied that spirit. From his time as an intern at CEO to his work as a respected columnist today, he has remained a fearless voice for accountability and the protection of individual rights.”
A Career of Impact
Joel’s journey from a CEO intern to a nationally recognized columnist and leader is a testament to the caliber of talent the Center fosters. Throughout his career, Joel has been a relentless voice in investigative journalism and public policy:
- Government Accountability: His investigative work on the “Visa Express” program—which led to critical national security reforms—showcases the high-stakes accountability our alumni bring to their work.
- National Commentary: As a syndicated columnist and contributor to outlets like National Review, The Wall Street Journal, and Townhall, he has consistently provided sharp analysis on the most pressing issues of the day.
- Advocacy Leadership: Today, Mowbray is widely regarded as a trusted leader on civil rights issues, specifically focusing on the rise of antisemitism and the protection of constitutional principles.
The CEO Legacy
At CEO, we take immense pride in the achievements of our former interns and fellows. Much like Ladisa Onyiliogwu, who was recently appointed as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the USDA, Mowbray represents the growing influence of CEO alumni in the highest levels of government and media.
By supporting the Center for Equal Opportunity, you are directly investing in the next generation of leaders like Joel Mowbray. Our programs provide young professionals with the training and ideological foundation necessary to champion colorblind equal opportunity and individual rights throughout their careers.
We congratulate Joel on his recent features and thank him for his continued dedication to the fight for civil rights.
